SILVERLAKE FIBER PROJECT UPDATE

 fiber-word

The main fiber construction work in Silverlake is complete, and most of the distribution fiber and fiber drops to the home have already been spliced. At the time of writing, our techs are still finishing up the cut overs in the last phase of the Chimney Rock (Nolan Park) project, which was our big project for 2015. As techs become available, crews will migrate over to Silverlake to begin cut overs there. While we are cutting over customers in Silverlake on an individual basis as our tech schedule permits, (we are currently scheduling cutover appointments for the end of April) we only expect all of our techs to be full time in Silverlake doing cutovers sometime towards the end of April.

This new fiber construction project will begin in April 2016 and the first customers will begin to be cut over from DSL to Fiber connections in August 2016. All homes in Kiowa currently on copper should be completely cut over to 100% fiber to the home by the end of 2016. This project will bring fiber service to about 340 more homes in Eagle Mountain. HOW TO MAKE YOUR INTERNET WORK DURING A POWER OUTAGE
power outage Did you know that your Direct Communications Internet will still work during a power outage? This is a unique and often overlooked cool feature that all Directcom customers can enjoy in Eagle Mountain. Because all of Direct Communications network and equipment is backed up by emergency generators and advanced battery power, even during an area-wide power outage, the Internet is still being delivered to each home on our network, even if the commercial power grid is down. However, some proactive preparedness will be required on your part, namely–make sure your own WiFi router or DSL modem (for DSL customers) inside your home is also powered by a battery backup so it will continue to deliver the signal to your tablets or other smart devices even in a power outage.
